Steel Fabrication Shop, Esquimalt Dockyards

Nickel Bros. Victoria office was recently awarded a contract to raise the roof of a Steel Fabrication Shop at the Dockyards in Esquimalt, B.C. Crew foreman, Doug Archibald put the project in prospective when he observed, "Hey this thing's ½ an acre".

The building was on a perimeter concrete wall with steel support columns supporting the metal roof and measured 96' X 200' long. Doug and his crew set up 36 Jacking Towers, 27' high using sharing scaffold to install the Crib Jacks on. The building was then raised 2' higher and left on the support system while the walls and columns were extended. This part of the project took 5 days.

Doug and the crew then spent 2 ½ days helping to adjust and connect the roof sections and complete the tear down. Four men setting Jacks on 36 towers made for a lot of climbing so the crew is in excellent shape for the busy summer season ahead. The project was completed safely, on schedule and was a credit to the crew. .
