Saanichton Heritage Farm House on Vancouver Island

This turn of the century house, "The Ray Pope House" named after its first owner, was located at 2185 Mt. Newton X Rd. in Central Saanich.

The new owners, John & Rita Rashleigh, contacted us to move the heritage house to their property, which is adjoining to the existing property.

The house was raised on 12" wooden headers to 4' above grade, to allow the placement of the steel support beams.

The irregular weight displacement of the house required an additional level of support beams above the 2 main beams.

The loaded weight of the building was 92 tons, with 80% of the weight centered over the rear axles.

On 42 wheels the house was moved to its new location where a 12' deep excavation was awaiting its arrival.

The building will be lowered onto its new foundation in 4 weeks time, and then the task of restoration will begin.
